Cirque Du Cyclisme - 2010

2010 Cirque Du Cyclisme

2010 Cirque Du Cyclisme

I just got back from the 2010 Cirque Du Cyclisme and woo wee what a time! For those of you who don’t know, the Cirque is an annual gathering of bike geeks and some of the most respected framebuilders of our day where we all get to hang out, ride around and talk bikes. There are special guest speakers and frame builders and there are always stories and jokes aplenty. In addition to the rides and talks and the beers, theres a bike swap held on Sunday in conjunction with a show in which there are several categories. Amongst the builders represented were (in no particular order): Brian Baylis, JP Weigle, Dave Wages, Stephen Bilenky, David Bohm, and Chris Bishop. There were also several bicycle historians of note including Jan Heine and Hillary Stone.
Unfortunately I arrived too late to partake in the Sheldon Brown memorial ride, but I got my fill on the hot and humid ride from Bethesda to Leesburg. I know my riding buddy Alan definitely had his fill- probably around mile 40 - but with a little encouragement, we hung in there and after refueling on some southern BBQ, Pei Wei, and several gallons of water we were good to go!

Cirque Du Cyclisme 2009

Cirque Du Cyclisme

oh man! just got back from the 12th annual Cirque du Cyclisme in VA! There were some impressive bikes there on display for sure! All handbuilt machines with most examples from east of the Mississippi. JP Weigle had more than a handful of representation with a few Brian Baylis in the mix although unfortunately he was notably absent. The speakers on saturday night included Dave Wages displaying some impressive work, Peter Weigle and the knowledgeable and all around great Jan Heine, the publisher of Bicycle Quarterly. Everyone was friendly and after a few nasty days of rain, the sun shined on the NOVA bike community. Check out the rest of the photos in my flickr stream!
