A Ruota Libera – post show

A Ruota Libera @ Pizza Napoletana

Whowee! Did you manage to squeeze in there?! It sure was croweded! The crowd that amassed on Sunday is a testament to the hard work of all of the exhibitors – but next time, maybe a slightly larger venue. Check out more photos of the event on our flickr stream. There was a great showing of support and the bay area’s best frame builders were in attendance. Hope you had a chance to sneak a peak, or even better yet – had a chance to try the pizza? I didnt. : ( I was hobbling around on crutches and the extra legs combined with the mass of real legs wasnt very conducive to a good time. Also! The Shelly Horton that was built by Bilenky and won Best Lugged Frame at NAHBS 2011 was there – attended to by Mr. Brett Horton himself (purveyor of The Horton Collection).
Co-conspirators: Black Cat Bicycles, Soulcraft, Retrotec & Inglis, Steve Rex, Bruce Gordon, Bilenky and Sycip. Also Matt was there from Pass & Stow sporting some nifty upgrades to his already best-of-the-best front rack.

thats all for now!

The Bikes of SF

My friend recently showed me this cute little poster illustrating the varying bikes that most of us in SF witness on a daily basis. A clever little poster designed by a girl named Tor (awesome!) pretty much covers it. The only one we’re a little confused about is the Haight. But we’re forgiving people and we are willing to overlook that. Check out her Flickr stream here where she has some swell shots. Check out the full poster here and if youre interested in purchasing a copy – click here to support your local artisan.

Checking out her photo stream also lead us to this awesome gallery of bike posters! Noteworthy: Bike!Bike!, Stalen Ros 2008, City to Shore (for use of the Rudge chainring), and Van Megoldas.

See? Even Ralph likes our bikes.

Ralph Lauren Store Window Display

Ralph Lauren Store Window Display

The other day we had a fine young gentleman from Ralph Lauren come by the shop and ask us to build a bicycle for display in their window. With a few rough guidelines – mostly concerning color, we whipped something up. Now its kept company by a headless manakin with a color matching outfit as it longingly looks out the window like a pound puppy at the capable riders walking past it. The bike is there to promote their new RLX line of clothing which is supposed to be luxury and high tech sports ware. But lets be serious here: its the bike thats really important.

The lovely folks over at Soulcraft are gonna come to town a little later this month to put on a custom bike show at Una Pizza Napoletana (11th + Howard). And seriously – who doesnt like awesome Pizza and custom Bicycles? What more do you want?! okay fine – there will be beer and coffee too AND MUSIC! Seriously now wtf more do you want?

And WHAT A LINEUP! If youre lucky enough to live in the Bay Area, some of the most notable frame builders around will be there. Take your pick! The aforementioned Soulcraft, Rock Lobster, Hunter, Steve Rex, Inglis, Bruce Gordon, Sycip, Brent Steelman and more!
And if you have a second, check out this really nice video clip of a movie that will screen at the show. ‘FROM STEEL': The Making of a Soulcraft’ by director Michael John Evans.

Cowardly driver plows through a group of cyclists

Hey everyone. Im sorry to make this two sad posts in a row, but some crazyness just went down in Puerto Allegre, Brazil. We need to stand up and reprimand Rua Luiz Afonso for his thoughtless actions. He claims that the cyclists were threatening him and his 15 year old son, so he thought the best solution was to floor it – and blast through the mass. Thankfully no one was killed, but I think this guy should be charged with multiple counts of attempted murder. I also have to wonder how intense his road rage must have been in the moments leading up to his insanity. If he was cussing and screaming in anger – and probably scaring the beejeezus out of his kid. Anyway – everyone needs to take a moment to relax and recognize how short-fused we have become. Here is the sad link to the story and some videos.

Also – big props to the guy in the orange shirt that looks over his shoulder, sees the car, hops off the bike and JUST gets out of the way! PHEW! I wish everyone else involved with this horrible event a swift recovery and some justrice.
