New bike friends!
On wednesday I got a pretty serious shipment of four nearly-identical bikes shipped to me from Connecticut - aka the Constitution State - aka the Nutmeg State. Seriously - did you know that? I didnt. They think because of some trading or something. Anyhow, I digress. So I built up the bikes and the four adventurers showed up ready to rock. With a few minor adjustments and some serious bungee cord action, they are now on their way. Every summer, four first year UCONN medical students bike across the country for leukemia research and so the tradition continues! Be sure to check out their blog as they trek across the US all the way home. Good luck to Loreen Fournier, Stacy White, Arturo Montano, and Alex Ocampo!
New bike racks
Hello Internets! Guess who stopped by the shop yesterday?! A wonderful worker for the city of San Francisco! He installed the new bike racks we have outside our shop! Which means more parking for everyone!
PS - Dont forget to check out Phil’s blog on this site! He totally riding across the country and putting his story online for all to read! Last updated on the 17th. (note to Phil - lets get some pics up there!)
Cirque Du Cyclisme - 2010
I just got back from the 2010 Cirque Du Cyclisme and woo wee what a time! For those of you who don’t know, the Cirque is an annual gathering of bike geeks and some of the most respected framebuilders of our day where we all get to hang out, ride around and talk bikes. There are special guest speakers and frame builders and there are always stories and jokes aplenty. In addition to the rides and talks and the beers, theres a bike swap held on Sunday in conjunction with a show in which there are several categories. Amongst the builders represented were (in no particular order): Brian Baylis, JP Weigle, Dave Wages, Stephen Bilenky, David Bohm, and Chris Bishop. There were also several bicycle historians of note including Jan Heine and Hillary Stone.
Unfortunately I arrived too late to partake in the Sheldon Brown memorial ride, but I got my fill on the hot and humid ride from Bethesda to Leesburg. I know my riding buddy Alan definitely had his fill- probably around mile 40 - but with a little encouragement, we hung in there and after refueling on some southern BBQ, Pei Wei, and several gallons of water we were good to go!
Rosebud was a bike!
