RIP Phil Wood :: 1926-2010

Mr Phil Wood, a legend in the cycling community has passed away. Having founded his company in 1971, Mr Wood created arguably the best hubs in the bicycle industry as well as introduced the first sealed pedals ever. Eventually Mr Wood sold his company to some investors in 1991 who have successfully continued his legacy of quality, precision bicycle components. Mr Wood passed away at his daughter’s residence in Roseville, CA on March 14th. He will be sorely missed.

Angela finishes her RB-t

Angelas Bridgestone RB-t

Angela's Bridgestone RB-t

A little while ago, a girl on vacation came in and bought a Bridgestone RB-t frame from me. She came in looking for a full bike, but I convinced her that it was easier to transport a frame back to Australia than a whole bike. Anyway, to make a long story short, she has finished her build! With the help of her LBS Cheeky Transport she now has a totally awesome custom ride! (I see her putting a front rack on there someday.) But congrats Anglea! Nothin’ but miles and smiles ahead!

Stack o bikes

Stack o' bikes

WOO HOO! We’ve been nominated for SFGate’s Best of the BayList! So now we need your help! We need you go warm up that left mouse clicky finger and make your way over to the SFGate site and vote for us! Voting starts on March 29th so spread the good word! Or leaves us a review or something. And by something I mean vote. Dont be a jerk, just do it.

In related news, Google just came by about a week ago and snapped some photos for their 360 degree store panorama that will supposedly be viewable via streetview. My understanding is that some of the images will also be used to make a profile page for Citizen Chain where you can all criticize and praise us as you see fit. 2010 is going to be the year that Mr Chain becomes internet savvy!

Joe DiMaggio North Beach bike polo

We finally made polo a reality! I really wouldn’t mess with Sasha, one of Boston’s finest!.. Anyway, Tuesday was our third game at Joe DiMaggio park in North Beach one block from the shop! We are doing this legit and all are welcome although we must respect the rules of the park. The shop is closed Tuesdays but we are going to be doing shop rides and polo on Tuesdays! Stop by the shop, or call, (415) 796 2925.

some beat up polo bikes below.

“oh, its such a perfect day. I’m glad I spent it with you..”

We might come down to play in the Mission on Thursdays, but we are here Tuesdays.

EL came by! hurry up and pay us back for the saddle buddy!
